That internet myth started with this picture below.
While Woody and Jessie may have played along that one time for this photo, it’s not a regular thing. Since this photo went viral, countless people have been shouting “Andy’s Coming!” at the parks to try to recreate it. If the characters were to suddenly drop every time someone yelled that particular phrase out, A) It would take up a lot of time, which would lead to longer lines, B) It could ruin someone’s photo, and C) they could fall on someone or bump into them or otherwise injure them, not to mention themselves.
If you do yell out “Andy’s coming,” they won’t even acknowledge it, as you can see in this video.
True fact: I worked at Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin at Magic Kingdom Park and they’d say that to the cast members. Including the ones who have the power to stop the ride and stuff. Nice going guys.
Modern America’s general attitude toward animation and comics is so completely ass-backwards and disrespectful that it actually almost disgusts me to be considered an “American cartoonist.”
American and French artists pioneered the entire goddamn medium, and yet only one of those countries still seems to care enough to take it seriously.
It doesn’t matter who you are, you are not somehow above animation. You do not get to look down on an entire artform without even looking at it just because you do not understand it.
Oh by all means, go right ahead and hate me. Hurt my feelings, but by all means know that this blog has been on hiatus for a loooong time now and I don’t really do anything on it unless I want to get on my soapbox on Disney related things. So if you’re trying to get me to delete this blog that’s not going to happen because if I did that I wouldn’t be able to use tumblr for my other blogs on this account.
So go right ahead, tell me how terrible I am to be born a cisgendered person. Something I did not choose to be and cannot change.Tell me I’m a female dog. Tell me I’m afraid of people. Go right a-fucking-head.
Not at all. I am against misrepresentation. If it really is a gay family, that wasn’t the absolute best way to represent a queer couple or family.
That’s like saying “Oh you wanted people of different gender or sexuality to be in quality entertainment? Okay here you go! Whoops! Did you see that? Nope? Oh too late, it’s gone. Go ahead and watch the rest of the film now.”
What’s the point really? A medal or something? A pat on the back?
Not all representation is good representation.
I just took my parents to see this movie today and I watched that scene very closely.
Nowhere does he say that it’s his family. He just direct attention to the sauna and says “Hi, family!” He could be simply directing it to the whole group, not his family.
It’s like saying “Oh look it’s a doctor. Hi, doctor,” or “Hey, check that out, it’s an acting troupe. Hi, acting troupe!”
Even if it was his family, that’s still a woman in that sauna, her towel is covered up higher than any of the other characters inside. One can’t discount that it’s plausible it could be a wife or mother to the children. It very well could be the Trader’s brother and sister-in-law or what have you.
I’m not quite sure what kind of terminology that would have but I wouldn’t be surprised if there is one. Also, we don’t know really either way. There aren’t enough clues to really support either so unless Disney says something directly or an animator does instead, I wouldn’t go around saying it’s true or using it as Disney fact. Like the whole Andy’s Coming thing.
THERES A GIRL IN MY CLASS THAT WORKS FOR DISNEY AND SHE SAID THAT THE SHOP OWNER IN FROZEN IS GAY HIS HUSBAND IS IN THE SAUNA WITH HIS KIDS APPARENTLY HES THE FIRST OPENLY GAY DISNEY CHARACTER AND NO ONE NOTICED
First of all. This is not the Outpost owner’s family. Second, I’m pretty sure that’s an adult woman who is more than likely the mother of the family. Third, Disney is a large company and just being a part of it does not mean said person has the credibility to confirm that. If the girl was part of Disney Animation or any portion of the company that would be associated with the making of Frozen well, that certainly changes things a tad. Hell, I worked at Disney and I could say any sort of fact about the Marvel production of Avengers that I wanted but that doesn’t mean it’s true because I’m from Disney.
If this was true it would probably be at least on par with the Good Luck Charlie news that want floating around last year. I’ve only seen this post being reblogged left and right on tumblr and nowhere else.
This is in no way to deny different representations of sexuality in Disney films or in any film for that matter. It’s definitely something that we need to see more of but give credit where credit is due. This isn’t it. I wish it was, but it isn’t and I’m sorry in advance if I’ve offended you with this. I imagine I’m going to get some hate with this one.
Hey! I leave in the morning for Walt Disney World College Program Fall ‘13 and stuff. So you can expect slightly less content if any for a while.
I’ll be honest with the people I like I have utter disdain for running this blog anymore. I get no enjoyment out of it. Which is probably why I ended up in a completely different kind of community…The Walking Dead.
I know right? Crazy! But I’m really sick of the atmosphere in this side of tumblr with shades of hipocrosy, lack of individuality, praising of some fabricated celebrity status (to which a lot of cast members roll their eyes over), and also the acceptance of age in a community widely known for its forays in family entertainment.
You can like Disney if you are not a child, and you can be your inner child and like childish things.
Coincidentally, you can like Disney if you are not a child, and you do not have to act like a child to have childlike qualities. You do not have to act like a child to like Disney. You can be an adult. It’s not always the most fun thing but there are some aspects that are freeing and different and you should embrace whatever it is you want to embrace. You can be whoever you wish to be so long as you don’t cause harm to others or yourself. Making jabs at others by their age and what they like is hurtful.
So I’m done with most of you. I’ve had it up to the Matterhorn with you all especially anonymous users who treat bloggers like they are worthless. Leave the dramatic moments to the movies and park shows. I do what I love and no longer is this something that I love. If you have questions you can talk to me but if you’re just going to question why I dislike the Disney community on tumblr then you can just reread this post.
